Maggie’s Priorities
End the Corruption and Increase Transparency
We deserve a government that listens to the people. Recently, 99.4% of council votes have been unanimous, which has led to very little debate or discussion on important issues. How is it that the council can pass massive pay raises for themselves and the mayor (running afoul of our state’s conflict of interest laws) without holding a single hearing? How is it that the city can fund expensive religious statues without the council’s permission? Enough is enough.
As your next councilor, Maggie will fight for more transparency by:
Forcing roll call votes on important topics so voters know where all councilors stand.
Organizing community and city council hearings so people can have their voices heard.
Starting a regular newsletter so residents know what’s happening in City Hall and in their neighborhoods.
Protect Taxpayers
Another consequence of the lack of transparency is that our tax dollars are being spent on pet projects that waste resources. Instead of spending $850,000 on marble statues, we should spend that money on pothole repair and better signage. Our taxes should be paying for trash pickup, not tax breaks for luxury developers.
As your next councilor, Maggie will protect our tax dollars by:
Working to repeal the pay raises that the council passed. The mayor and council shouldn’t have raises that are exponentially higher than our teachers and firefighters.
Providing meaningful oversight on spending projects so money isn’t wasted or lost along the way.
Vetting new appointees by the mayor so that they are actually vital to our city.
Provide Prompt Constituent Services
We deserve to have a government that fixes problems quickly and efficiently, whether it’s stopping dangerous speeding, fixing potholes, clearing snow, and more. Maggie will be a councilor who is accessible and available for her constituents.
As your next councilor, Maggie will make government work for you by:
Answering emails and calls promptly. In fact, if you need something, you can call her at: 617-669-1832
Directing city money away from wasteful side projects and developer giveaways and towards more important offices, like DPW.
Writing a regular newsletter that provides updates on goings-on in the neighborhood.
Hold Developers Accountable
Too many of our neighbors are being priced out of Quincy. We need to have housing that is actually affordable, and the first step is to ensure that the developers who are building here actually abide by our rules. This is why Maggie is rejecting donations from developers, so they don’t have any influence over her.
As our next councilor, Maggie will make Quincy more affordable by:
Opposing tax breaks for luxury developers.
Ensuring new housing actually complies by our affordability rules.
Support a real estate transfer fee to help finance lower and middle income housing.
Protect our Environment
Maggie has dedicated much of her career to cleaning our environment, even founding the Quincy Tree Alliance to protect the city’s tree canopy. It’s important that councilors work to make our city’s air and water cleaner.
As our next councilor, Maggie will make Quincy greener by:
Supporting a robust city composting program.
Investing in our parks system so families have places to gather.
Advocating for more renewable energy for public buildings.
