Where do at-large and school committee candidates stand?
With the preliminary election for at-large and ward 6 councilors now behind us, we know which candidates will be competing in the general election.
On November 4, voters across the city will choose every single councilor – six representing the city’s wards and three representing the city “at large” – and three school committee members.
Happily, this year there are actual choices to make for every seat except one (Quincy Point’s Ward 2, where only the incumbent is running). So who to choose?
Figuring out where candidates stand on issues can be tricky and time-consuming, so I made cheat sheets for the at-large and school committee races for anyone interested (PDF English; PDF Chinese).
I sourced the data from publicly available interviews and questionnaires (from QATV, The Patriot Ledger, and the nonpartisan Quincy Votes!), and in the case of incumbents, from their past votes. (For the ward races, just know that every incumbent on the council voted for the 79% and 50% raises for the mayor and council, and in fact voted unanimously 99.4% of the time in 2024.)
I hope this data is helpful! And I hope you check your voter registration and cast a ballot in the coming weeks. Our taxes, schools, roads, parks, and more will be shaped by those who do!
